Based in Cardiff, our practice has developed an expertise in both general and cosmetic dentistry. We want every visit to be a positive experience, so we treat our patients in the most gentle, relaxed and professional way possible.
About us
There’s been a practice here on Cathedral Street since 1965 when it was owned by David Watson-James. Dentist’s Alyn and Charlie then acquired the practice back in 2004, when Pontcanna Dental Care was a single surgery practice. Since then, the practice and our very talented team of professionals has grown.
Our core values include promoting good oral health, and putting each patient in control of how they receive exceptional dentalcare. We live and breathe these values in every single appointment.

Meet Alyn Humphreys
BDS (Birmingham)

Alyn was born and brought up in Cardiff. After qualifying he returned to work near home and has worked at the practice since 1988, first as an associate and now as a partner at Pontcanna Dental Care.
Alyn has enjoyed spending that time developing long term relationships with all his patients. The care provided by Alyn is of the highest standard, and he ensures that the “teeth for life message” of Pontcanna Dental Care continues.
In his spare time Alyn is devoted, in part, to Glamorgan Wanderers RFC, and enjoys safaris to Africa where he's developed a passion for photography.
Meet Charlie Stephanakis
BDS (Bristol)
GDC: 60470
Originally from Cardiff, Charlie now lives locally with his family. After qualifying, he joined an exclusive West End practice, refining the smiles of media personalities and helping clients have their own healthy teeth for life.
Responding to an increase in national demand for personal private dentistry, Charlie then relocated to Cheltenham. Here, he focused on helping clients to achieve radiant smiles by providing cosmetic dentistry, care for dental-phobics, and client focused dentistry.
Charlie's hard work and dedication was recognised with the “Dentist of the Year” award in 2001. He was also a runner up in the BT and Daily Telegraph customer service awards. Charlie is really passionate about listening to, and providing for the patient’s individual needs.
In his spare time Charlie loves rugby, good wine and food.

Neema Mal

Neema qualified from Cardiff University in 2006 and is our resident Invisalign dentist. He lives with his young family in Roath and enjoys running and regularly takes part in marathon events.
Ian Seddon

Ian is an extremely experienced specialist Implantologist and works at a number of practices. Ian lectures across Europe, has published articles and papers in dental journals. He also loves spending time with his family and going skiing.
Roxanne Aughton
DipHE Dental Hygiene & Therapy (Cardiff) 2013

Roxanne has worked in private dentistry for many years, first as a Dental Nurse, and then after graduating Cardiff University in 2013 as a Dental Therapist. She has a huge passion for preventative and holistic dental care for patients.
When not in work, Roxanne is usually found outdoors with her two young children - they brave the beach whatever the weather!
Eleanor Swanton
Registered Dental Hygienist

Eleanor worked at Cardiff Dental Hospital for 8 years before joining Pontcanna Dental Care in 2010. She has since enjoyed fully embracing the role of Dental Hygienist and provides excellent care in a warm and friendly environment with the support of a dedicated team. Eleanor is very family orientated, spending time with her husband and two children outside of work.
Grant Bignell
Practice Manager
After working in the media industry for almost 10 years, Grant opted for a change of scenery and began working at Pontcanna Dental Care. As a forward-thinking practice, he enjoys implementing lots of fun and exciting ideas.
Grant lives in the Vale with his young family and is the Head Coach at Glynneath RFC (who beat Alyn's Glamorgan Wanderers on a regular basis!), and he also coaches at Penarth Bears Minis & Juniors section.
Jade Ward

Jade started dental nursing in 2008, gaining experience across several dental practices across Cardiff before joining Pontcanna Dental Care in 2013. Jade lives with her husband Craig and loves annual holidays to warmer climates. In her free time, she enjoys socialising with family and friends and going to the gym (when there's time!)
Lyn Marshall
Dental Nurse

Lyn comes to work for a break from her two teenage boys! She started at Pontcanna Dental Care in September 2011, and has over 30 years’ experience in the dental industry including working as a Practice Manager. Lyn loves working in dentistry and enjoys the relaxed and friendly atmosphere our practice. In her spare time Lyn enjoys walking around the Gower and places of historical interest (especially old pubs!)
Grace Collins

Grace recently began her career within the dental industry, and is excited to expand her knowledge and skills as part of the team at Pontcanna Dental Care. In her spare time Grace enjoys travelling, exploring and socialising with friends.
Cherry Oldridge
Receptionist
Cherry started at Pontcanna Dental Care in February 2009 as a Receptionist, she is the happy, welcoming face you see when you come into the practice. Previously, Cherry held roles with Abbey National and Algebra Ltd. She loves cooking, walking and gardening but hates sport!
Amanda Hurn
Receptionist
Amanda joined Pontcanna Dental Care in January 2023 and loves being part of the practice, she's there to greet everyone with a smile and make you feel at ease. In her spare time Amanda enjoys going to the gym, walking her dog and eating out with the family.
